Junction & Connection Navigation System Design

for a spline package i am flabbergasted that the method of navigating a spline network is so incomprehensible. I have had this package for many years but have still not worked out how to successfully choose a path when presented with a Y junction. Follow Up spline options and Heading Direction options seem to have precisely zero effect on the outcome of the SplineControllers path.
