Maintaining vertical orientation of extruded meshes
#1
Is it possible to maintain vertical geometry when extruding a mesh along a spline?

I am trying to build a wall with vertical posts/ slats. But they will bend along curves that travel up or down. Looks as expected if the CPs are all on the same plane, but i need to travel up and down hills.

I've tried different orientation methods and rotating CPs, but have not found the right combination to keep things completely vertical.

Hi,
Extruded meshes follow the extrusion spline, up and down. If you want your wall to stay vertical at all points, then you need to segment it, as you can see in this real life picture:

To achieve this effect, do not use shape extrusion for your wall, but use the Volume Spots module to place the wall segments next to each other.
I hope this helped you.

Thanks. I thought that might be the case.

Is there a good way to control rotation or maintain connections better? Perhaps pivot of the object needs to be at one of the ends of the wall section?

You are welcome.

You can use the properties section of the Input GameObject module to apply a translation on your objects. That way you can make the wall sections placed such that the spline goes through their base and not their center.

For the other question, please check this documentation and tutorial:

Feel free to ask if something is still unclear.
